For Minnesota Motocrossers, 2001 has been a year of weather extremes. While
previous weeks had cold and rain, this week's feature attraction was wind.
With strong winds and even stronger gusts, spectators were sandblasted like
extras in Lawrence of Arabia and one EZ-Up was last seen heading east towards
North Branch. Except for the wind, it was a perfect day for racing. The
temperatures were mild, the sun was out most of the time, and 900 riders signed
up and provided exciting racing action all day.
Dan Luloff and Pat McNamara put on quite a show in the second Vet A moto, far
outpacing the rest of the field, and changing positions many times a lap. Luloff
ultimately prevailed over his off-track friend, winning the overall. Vet C had the
biggest gate of the day. 46 riders nearly filled the 52 gate start, with Craig
Ahachich taking the overall win as well as the overall in 25+ C. Other double
winners were Kyle Love in 25+ A and 250 A, John Dehn in Youth and 125 B, and Dan
Holmes in 16-24 C and 250 C.
